I mean, think about it.
We have Kristen Huselius making 4.75 million while Jeff Finger, a defenseman who is 28 and has had one good season making 3.5 million.
Then there's Mats Sundin, a player who may only have one or two years left possibly signing a contract that will play him TWENTY MILLION OVER TWO YEARS.
What about Wade Redden making 6.5 million (the same as he did before) after a few seasons of mediocrity?
What is the current state of hockey? How can it be fixed?

to be honest, i really don't know if it can be fixed GEO. it's really dispicable how some of these hockey players feel like $7 million per year isn't good enough for them when there are people in this country and this world that make significantly less than that that struggle to make ends meet and would kill for money like that. and if there was no salary cap, who knows what kind of ridiculous money some of these players would be making right now. and to think, they make more than the President does, and he's responsible for running the entire country. all they do is skate on ice and shoot a puck around for 60 minutes. and to top it off, they throw that money away on frivolous things that they probably don't even need.
it certainly is a sad state of affairs. i love hockey as much as the next guy, but things really need to change.

I agree, with the salary cap, I don't know how teams have been able to afford this. It certainly cannot be blamed on the players though. If you can get that kind of money, then by all means take it. It's the GMs fault for offering all of it. I'm sure the players know their not worth what they paid, it's all a matter of being smart enough to make the money.

In my opinion, they need to figure out how to untie the salary cap from revenue. The reason it is going up is because team's are making more money.
While that's a good thing for the league, it's a bad thing for the fans who are seeing their favorite players leave for ten million a season.
If anything, why not just make the salary cap go up a fixed amount each season? It would help control it.
Think about it. The cap floor right now is the same as the cap maximum was the year after the lockout. It's madness.

The problem will solve itself out in the next year or two when teams that have signed guys like Redden for 6.5 Million per for a good chunk of a decade have filled up to the cap and other teams simply refuse to lay out that kind of cash for second tier Free Agents.
