She is among the 8500+ field, 70 of whom do not have to qualify. Her qualifier is played in Hawaii on May 15. If she progresses through that she'll move on to another qualifier, which, if she comes through, will compete in the tournament. She tried for it last year, but failed in the first qualifying round.
How do you think she'll do this time around? Can she be the first female player to qualify for the Open?

Possibly, but I see no reason a woman should play on the men's tour. She needs to prove herself on her own tour, first.

I agree/disagree with you BlackOps. Women should be able to play on the men's tour. There is no reason as to why they shouldn't. But why should it be Wie? She has never learned to win, and there are golfers in the LPGA that are much more accomplished.

Well, if you believe that GEO, how about the guys who are elite on the Nike/Nationwide tour, but are bad on the PGA? Should they be able to play women's? If I'm not good enough to win on the men's, should I be able to jump over to the women's where I know I can win?

No, only because the men's game is considered to be the peak of the profession. Why shouldn't a great female golfer be able to reach the top?
Isn't it one of those little league rules that a kid with great talent always plays up, not down?

No..little league is co-ed There is clearly a men's and women's tour. Men should play on men's, and women on women's. I would not however mind seeing tournaments designed to have both, whether it be in a normal field or a team sort of deal.

But if a woman can play at a man's level, why shouldn't they?
Furthermore, if a man can't beat a woman, why is he playing with the men?
What does this tell you? The gender issue is meaningless. There should be two pools. A and B. The A pool is for players with at least four years on the tour, and at least one victory. The person can be a man or woman. The B pool is for everyone else.
It'd make the game more competitive.
