I'm a huge tennis fan! I've played my whole life. I love Agassi and Rod!!!! and on the womens side, Davenport. I hate it when people say tennis is just about hitting the ball back and forth. There's so much more than that.

I know, I tryed playing at a local park with my girlfriend, who's big into tennis (cpt. on high school team) It looked easy, butI could barely make it over the net! I watch the final matches of Grand Slams a lot and like Andre Agassi and Jenifer Capriati. I once watched a big match between Capriati and Martina Hingis. Good stuff, very underated

Tennis is a great game to watch and to play! People don't realize the skill and effort involved in it, the pros make it look easy. I can remember being a kid and seeing John McEnroe lose a match on what he deemed a bad call and he had a fit and broke his racket on the court. He was swearing and screaming his head off, it was actually hilarious.

I watched a match yesterday on ESPN Classic. Agassi (with hair!!!) vs. Ivanisvic or something!! Possibly the 1992 Wimbledon final? I'm not 100% sure who Agassi beat then. Agassi at his best was very, very hard to beat. For a while about 6 or 7 years ago him and Sampras were the two main attractions of the sport...reaching a higher level than most before them. While Sampras won more grand slams, Agassi holds one record Sampras was not able to achieve - winning all 4 of the major tournaments. He's still around of course, but his standards have fallen slightly. Not too greatly, but it appears that they've fallen greatly because of the rise of younger players in the sport, such as Rod!!!!, Federer and Nadal. Goran Ivanisovic was another great player. Had a good serve, and reached several grand slam finals. He entered Wimbledon in 2001 as a wild card, and was drawn in the semi finals agaisnt Britain's tennis hero Tim Henman. When everyone saw Henman had been drawn against a wild card they began presuming it would be his first Wimbledon final - terrible mistake. The match spanned on about 3 days because of rain, but Ivonisovic took it. Drawn against Pat Rafter in the final, that was a great match. Went to the last set, I think the games score in the last set was something like 10 - 8 Invonisovic. "You cannot be serious!". Nope, when it comes to arguing with the umpire it don't come any better tahn Johnny Mac. Several players do still smash their rackets in frustration of course - but you now recieve a warning for it. Hapened to Mark Phillopousis last year at Wimbldon, the umpire said "Warning Phillopousis". He replied "I should be giving you the warning! You know why? Because you're a crap umpire!". He was fined for it afterwards. Then of course there was Greg Rudsedski. Playing in Wimbledon in your adopted country, people expect you to do well. Even if you're playing against Andy Rod!!!!, a guy who has the fastest serve in the world. I suppose Rudsedski was joint with him, but Rod!!!! had been serving better lately. Anyway, Greg was 2 sets to 1 down, and looked to be coming back to take the fourth. He hit a shot which none of the touch judges ruled as out. There came a shout of "Out" from the crowd, and because of this the umpire gave Rod!!!! the point (another call for video technology?). Rudsedski was furious. He swarmed over the the umpire, and gave him a real grilling, swearing all over the place, while he was on centre court and on live television. He was fined £1, 500 for it, and his career started going downhill from that point.

I know it is bad sportsmanship to act like that but I also think John Mac gave tennis an edge it needed and made it more popular as well!

I hate when players throw their rackets. I know there's pressure and you're in the heat of the game but throwing your racket does a few things: 1. Gives your opponent information about your feelings. 2. Throws off your mind. 3. Makes you use a new racket. 4. Puts you on the "Not top 10"

I know it is bad sportsmanship to act like that but I also think John Mac gave tennis an edge it needed and made it more popular as well! He was they guy who made tennis more watchable, there's no doubt about that. It's what happend for a lot of sports, they're considered boring then someone comes in with an edge and makes them exciting and good to watch. Mac is a sporting legend in that sense. Yep, definately. It's harder to play when you're frustrated, and when you break your racket your opponet knows that you're frustrated, so he can act in a manner that makes you more frustrated. It also ruins your concentration more than you could imagine. Players who throw their rackets usually end up losing it, so much that they can hardly play any more.
