Now that he's a free agent after being released by Detroit, the owner of one of the most interesting timing mechanisms in history needs to find a ballpark to hit #500. Where will this slugger end up?
Reuben Amaro says that it's a "longshot" for him to come to Philly, and word on the street is Gary wants to play in Tampa. Personally, I think he's a fit for any AL team in need of a DH or a backup power plan. That includes Tampa, Toronto (they're not interested), Cleveland, Minnesota, Anaheim, Oakland and Seattle.

Take Tampa off the list that's the main reason why they went after Burrell. I can see him going to Seattle or Cleveland.

Well I read the Phillies were interested in him after they cut Geoff Jenkins today. They need another right handed batter for depth as they have their 3,4, and 5 hitters all lefty and Matt Stairs is a lefty as well. Jenkins batted left too, and lack of performance plus left handed batting plus a large contract lead to his release.

I really hope he doesn't come to Philly. Hes past his prime and would just take up bench space, Jason Donald needs to gain some big league experience plus his right handed bat make him the reason that the Phillies shouldn't get Sheffield.

I wouldn't mind Sheffield on the bench. I think he would be an upgrade to Matt Stairs.
But someone who should be getting more recognition is Pablo Ozuna. Currently a non-roster invitee, I really hope the Phillies sign him to a 1-year deal. He's had a great spring at the plate, and I think he would fill the righty-need very well.
Just a little side note...I also think that come May or June, Lou Marson should be taking Chris Coste's job as the backup catcher. While he was a nice story, Coste just doesn't have it anymore, and I think his time is done. My guess is Marson has the potential to be the next Mike Lieberthal.

To quote Lieberthal himself "Whatever."

Sheffield may still have something with the bat, but he probably couldn't play a whole season in the outfield without his body breaking down, and quite frankly shouldn't play in the outfield at all because he's a terrible fielder. The same can be said about Matt Stairs, but it would be terrible for the team to have both Stairs and Sheffield on the roster.
