I want to hear your thoughts on everything from "should this be a tournament?" to "wow! the USA hasn't been eliminated yet."
I'm also interested to hear if anyone is actually watching.

I only watch the WBC if nothing else is on television. Ultimately I think the timing of the WBC is potentially the worst possible time. Nobody cares about basball in March. All it is is MCAA playoffs, and Spring Training, and even the NFL offseason gets more attention. Have it after October when everybody is still in a baseball mood.
And I hate to say it, but I think evey MLB player is wrong for playing in it. Playing in the WBC in no way helps the MLB team that you belong to, and the fact that you are choosing a silly basball tournament over your high-paying MLB job bewilders me. "Even though I get maid $4 million to play baseball in this league, I'm gonna play for this one for 'my country'." Now, the teams aren't gonna be the ones complaining about this, because they don't want to upset their players. But somebody has to, because I can't see a single good reason to play in the WBC than to play with your REAL team in spring training.

But somebody has to, because I can't see a single good reason to play in the WBC than to play with your REAL team in spring training. Maybe, well, because... it *is* you country. I would argue that I can't think of why you'd be so concerned about your team and your money that you'd turn down a chance to play for your country. USA: Do you not care that baseball was invented in YOUR sport and we are getting our you-know-what's kicked? ESPECIALLY the USA... should be sending its best team out there. The entire purpose of the World Baseball Classic is to take over as the prime seat of International Baseball because teams put their best teams on the field. But it isn't happening yet. We're getting there. Yes, it has its flaws. Yes, it's still better than Olympic (non-existant) baseball. I have watched the WBC every chance I get and have constantly wondered where some names are... Mark DeRosa, kudos to you for sucking it up and doing what's best for YOUR COUNTRY when the going got rough. You could have easily refused to play First Base because your ballclub wasn't expecting you there. But you did what the team needed you to do. Every other American 1B in the Majors (save Youkilis), shame on you. Mark DeRosa's a great athlete, but we really should have had a real first baseman after Youkilis went down. But we didn't, because we didn't even fill our provisional roster because we couldn't get people to play. That is shameful and a total embarrassment to the United States. Other countries had problems getting people to play (ie Venezuelan pitching), but none was as horrible as the US. Japan takes on South Korea tonight for the championship. Because, for the most part, they put their best team on the field. USA, Venezuela, and most other teams failed to do so. I do think that moving the tournament to after the World Series might help eliminate these problems. It would also allow them to take off those dumb pitch count rules. Also, dump game 6 of the pools. They're meaningless. In the next round, the home team should be the team that was 2-0 and the road team should be the team that was 2-1. In every other sport, the international event is the major ideal to play in (not counting football, which doesn't really exist outside of the States). People WANT to play for their country; it's the ultimate honor in these sports like soccer and hockey. Why can't baseball step up and do the same thing?

I loved the WBC a lot more before Kevin Youkilis and Dustin Pedroia both got hurt playing in it

Why is does Puerto Rico have a separate team as the United States? Is Puerto Rican "nationalism" that strong?
