6 Years, 72 Million, 34.5 million guaranteed. sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3405326 So number 1 and number 3 have their contracts in already. This deal was large, but he is their franchise QB and they got it done in May so they dont need to worry about holdout. Thoughts?

It's a set up for disaster if you ask me.. Like it could get any worse for Altanta? It could. Things were bad this past season, and are probably going to be bad this season. As of right now, it's nearly impossible for the Falcons to get rid of Ryan in the next 4-5 years if he sucks. Think Joey Harrington. Committing THAT much salary to him makes him THE guy for the next 4-5 years, regardless of how he plays. With a situation like that, you don't want to commit that much time to an unknown. Look at how New Orleans turned it around. They used a proven guy in Drew Brees. Another proven guy is available in the trade market.. Derek Anderson.. some team should take advantage.

Why doesn't the NFL have a rookie cap?
If they were really interested in making sure all of their best young players kept going on a straight path, they'd make sure these distractions (HUGE contracts with tons of money up front) didn't get in the way.
How different would a guy like (sorry finsfan) Ricky Williams be if the money and drugs weren't in the way?

I'm pretty sure there is a rookie cap for each team individually, but it's a big number for ALL of your draft picks. How you allocate it is up to you.

Like NYI said, theres a rookie cap for all your picks combined. Each teams cap is decided after the draft depending on your picks. If have alot of choices early in the draft, most likely going to have a very high rookie cap.
But Goodell is considering having a player cap, like the NBAs. The NBA has a rookie cap and i dont think Lebron is making that much haha.

I dont Ryan will be great but he better play well. If he doesnt, this franchise is gonna keep on sinking, hes there ho[e right now and he better get his moneys worth.

Look, Matt Ryan is the new face of the franchise. I'm sure they have made that clear now. So why not extend the point by making him the highest paid player on the team?

Because they have too many other holes to fill. Giving Matt Ryan this much money isn't going to make him or the team better.
He's never been overly impressive other than winning that Georgia Tech game.

It improves the image of the team. It sends a message that they are over the Micheal Vick era.
And it takes time to rebuild a team. They made a great strive right here.

To me, the image of the Falcons is that of a losing team and a weak organization, not Michael Vick.

You think THAT is their image after having one terrible season? It takes more time than that to build an image. They need to find a new image. This is where it starts.
