Another difficult list, it seems that the list goes from obvious starts to average football players. There may be a few guys you might have never heard of on this list. These rankings are based upon role in the offense, previous success, but also potential, and obviously, skill.
1. Antonio Gates- San Diego Chargers
2. Jason Witten- Dallas Cowboys
3. Kellen Winslow Jr.- Cleveland Browns
4. Chris Cooley- Washington Redskins
5. Dallas Clark- Indianapolis Colts
6. Ben Watson- New Engalnd Patriots
7. Jeremy Shockey- New York Giants
8. Todd Heap- Baltimore Ravens
9. Tony Gonzales- Kansas City Chiefs
10. Alge Crumpler- Tennesee Titans
11. Heath Miller- Pittsburgh Steelers
12. Randy McMicheal- St. Louis Rams
13. Donald Lee- Green Bay Packers
14. Owen Daniels- Houston Texans
15. Ben Troupe- Tampa Bay Buccaneers
16. Vernon Davis- San Francisco 49ers
17. Tony Scheffler- Denver Broncos
18. Greg Olsen- Chicago Bears
19. Leonard Pope- Arizona Cardinals
20. Eric Johnson- New Orleans Saints
21. L.J. Smith- Philiadelphia Eagles
22. Mercades Lewis- Jacksonville Jaguars

Shockey should be over Watson and Clark. While both of those guys had a great season, I think Shockey is the better of the three.
I think Todd Heap should also be higher. If it's based somewhat on past success, he would be near the top four.

He hasn't proven that he is better than those two. I've never been a huge Chris Cooley fan. I think he's a product of a system with limited weapons. As a result, he puts up big numbers for a mediocre athlete.

What other tight ends has this system produced? Santana Moss and Clinton Portis are Pro Bowl players, and you do realize that for a few years he caught passes from Patrick Ramsey and Mark Brunell?

... you do realize that for a few years he caught passes from Patrick Ramsey and Mark Brunell? Wasn't he primarily a full back then? Cooley does not scare me as a receiver. He's not particularly quick and is only really effective as a safety valve for Campbell. As for the "product of the system" comment, what I should have said is "product of the situation". He's blossomed under two young quarterback in Campbell and Ramsey and Mark "Check Down" Brunell. The perfect situation a tight end can be in is one with a young quarterback who's still learning the game. I'm not saying Cooley is a bad player by any means, but I think he falls somewhere between 10-15 and definitely not in the top 5.

Baker will likely be TE1 for the boys in Green and White.

If you want to talk about a guy who was a "fullback" as a weapon for the Skins, talk about Mike Sellers.
Cooley is a weapon who has made impacts on many games.

He plays on a team that is loaded on offense and is a byproduct of an offense that features one of the best QB's, two of the best WR's, and one of the best upcoming RB's in the league.

I disagree. I think Dallas Clark would be successful in just about any offense you put him in. Last year when Wayne, Harrison, and Addai were hurt, Clark had an impact season for the Colts. I think he's the type of guy you can draw up plays for and know he's going to do what he has to. I would take Clark over Cooley any day of the week.

And Jeremey Shockey isn't? While I would take Cooley over Clark, that's not the comparison I'm making.
But don't forget that Shockey literally had no wide receiver to play with before Burress arrived.

I never said anything about Shockey talent wise. I just want to see him put together a full season before I put him in the top 10. There's no doubt in my mind he can be among the elite, I ust haven't seen it yet as a result of his durability issues.

Heath miller shouldnt be higher than randy mcmicheal.randy is faster, has better hands, and more of a weapon with the rams.

Problem is, McMichael was utilized on the Rams the way he should have been.
Heath Miller may not be as good in those categories, but he has never failed to perform when he's been called upon.

Steelers tight ends have a pretty big impact in the offense. I would actually take their backup, Matt Spaeth over a few of these uys if he was a starter.
McMicheal is a talented tight end, but the Rams offense hasn't really called for much play out of the tight end in the passing game.
