So you all of have sports pretty high up on that list. But is that something people grow out of? What about sports makes it so high up?

Sports are important because it's entertainment and fun. I can't ever see religion or education as more fun than sports (and I wasn't truly serious when education ranked zero ![:P](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v409/Ge__off/tongueF.gif) ) I can't really see how anyone could care about a sports team over family. Putting sports over the well-being of your family (Say you love the Royals. You decide to bet 1,000,000 dollars that they'll make the playoffs. You have a net worth of exactly 1,000,000. Why would you do this? Think you'll win and double your worth for your family, or do you just bet on them because you like them?) <---That annoys me. (not that I know anybody, but I've seen on HBO people that have bet on things like that and have been in major debt)

So you all of have sports pretty high up on that list. But is that something people grow out of? What about sports makes it so high up? Sport is a lifetime obsession - it usually reels you in at a young age and keeps you hooked for the rest of your life. As you experience the highs, lows and all round thrills that sport offers, you grow into it as opposed to out of it. And why does sport rank so highly on the list? Probably because of a variety of different factors, but personally I'd say because of the longevity of it more than anything. When someone starts supporting a team, they usually follow them for the rest of their life. That could be 60 or so years of passionately following a team. Contrast this with another aspect of life - how many friends do you stay in contact with for 60 years? The fact that you pretty much live with sports in your life somehow or other every day is another thing which ranks it highly. Even when I'm on an thoroughly enjoyable holiday, I always have to switch on the TV or pop into a bar to check the Chelsea result, and if we lose, it usually dampens my mood. I guess sports are just a way of life.

Fans and Sports are a 2 in 1 deal. You can't have fans without sports, and you can't have sports without fans. It would make the sport not as meaningful to play if a player didn't have anyone that looks up to them, or looks forward to them winning.
But sometimes fans take it to far, and end up obssessing with it. They have a one track mind, where they can only think about their sport, their team, or a certain player. They get to the point that they start to worship the mascott. Alot of fans take it too far, and it kinda ruins all the fun of being a fan.
People start to get into the sport so much after time, because it isn't the same thing day in and day out. There's always a different result, different plays, different moves. You learn something new every game, but some people get hooked on it.
Alot of people can't live without sports. They enjoy the up and down emotions and thrills of the wins and losses. It's a way of life, and some people make it all that matters to them in life.

Very tough decision, as everyone put up good arguments. I need to decide between Duckette and BlackOps. Both gave personal examples, but I think Duckette won me over with her last post. As much as I hate giving something else to Duck fans, Duckette wins ![;)](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v409/Ge__off/winkF.gif) Post your debate ![:)](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v409/Ge__off/smileF.gif)

This may now be out of Trash Talk, but I still feel it's worth discussing.
I was recently watching a show which was comparing sport with religion, and a lot of the people they asked almost classed sport as a religion. I certainly don't agree with this point of view, but i can see where they were coming from - some players are worshiped by fans, and it was mentioned about some fans almost instinctively praying if their team was just behind or in front with not long to go. Any thoughts on that?

I don't think praying for your team on instinct makes it a religion. It just makes sports another thing religion can be used for.
But no sport is a religion. No questions asked.
