I just want to say that the Andy-Federer match was a disgrace to US Tennis. I've never seen dominance like that. And Andy wasn't even playing that badly. But I think you'll agree that Rodd ick needs to learn how to volley. As for the matches, I'll take Sharapova. It should be a good game, because you have two power players. Serena has struggled in every match, but she hasn't played someone like Maria yet. As for the men's final, of course you have to take Federer. I'll say he gets through without dropping a set, which would be truly amazing. I think it's got to the stage where Andy just can't seem to beat Roger in the big tournaments. Federer definitely has the psychological edge and he has more shots in his locker than Rodd ick. If Federer beats Gonzalez in 3 it'll mean he's gone the tournament without dropping a set, an absolutely huge achievement for any player. Hard to believe any player could reach those standards, but Federer is setting new standards for the future of the game.

I'm changing my predicting. I just saw Gonzalez handle Haas like it was nothing. It'll be closer then 3 sets. Probably 4 or 5 as you said.
But what strikes me is that Fernando has beaten tougher competitors with better statistics then Federer. And he has the same kind of game, and is able to hit a backhand winner from anywhere, just like Roger. Should be a really fun final.

Wow. Both of us were wrong. And we when I say wrong, I mean completely off. Serena dominated, winning 6-1 6-1. Really unbelievable. In the men's doubles, the Bryan brothers won (as usual) which means 3 Americans are taking home a trophy at this years Australian Open. Great way to start the year off.
I personally thought that Maria took it very well in her speech after the match. Lets hope Serena doesn't go away, and keeps playing this well in tournaments.

Two good finals, even if both were very one sided. I favoured Maria to win, and I definitely didn't expect Serena to coast it as easily as she did. She had a great tournament, had to come through some tough games as an unranked player and is (I think) only the 2nd unranked players to win the women's tournament. She completely dismantled Sharapova in the final and in so doing has made it back into the top 20 of the rankings. Well done to her and here's hoping she can keep her concentration for the whole season and challenge for more tournaments this year.
As for Federer, what can you say? I thought Gonzalez would take a set when the first went to a tie break, but after Federer won the first Fernando lost a bit of spirit and Roger took advantage. To go through the whole tournament without dropping a set is a phenomenal achievement and I suspect that no other player will equal it for many a year (Roger himself might on that form!). He is a worthy winner and I now have no doubt that when he comes to retire, which will be a good few years away, he'll go out as the most successful player ever.

I'm surprized that Gonzo kept Roger from winning for 2 1/2 hours. That's more like a 4 or even 5 setter.
Is this the year Federer takes the French?
